One of the cave branches of the Phong Nha cave system located on the Chay river called Dark Cave has a cave entrance 20 meters wide, 40 meters high, both a water cave and a dry cave with a length of 5,258 meters and a height of 80 meters, the name of the cave. The cave was placed by the British Royal Caving Expedition when it came to explore in 1990 and 1992 because inside the cave, the “dark light” was so dense that it seemed like it could be touched.

Here and there, on the cave wall, there are blue orchid branches. Sitting on a boat running up the river, looking out on the two banks, we see the same limestone mountains, scattered villages, corn fields, and sugarcane fields. Phong Nha consists of two parts: dry cave and water cave. The dry cave at an altitude of 200m, according to geographers, once was an underground river, now exhausted, only the white stone arches and countless iridescent jade green stone columns.

Contrary to the dry cave, the current water cave still has a long river flowing day and night… The river is quite deep and the water is very clear. The most attractive and frequented by tourists is the water cave. Entering the water cave must go by boat and bring torches, because the deeper you go, the darker the cave becomes. Currently, in some places in the cave, electricity is connected, but if you want to go through 1,500m, you still need torches and lights.

Taking a boat to visit Phong Nha cave, we will be amazed and delighted by its splendid and magical beauty. Under the shimmering light of the torch lights, the stalactites show up all shapes and colors. There is a block shaped like a chicken, a toad, a block made of bamboo burning upright on the water… Another block bearing the shape of a raspberry, a Khanh, or a picture of fairies playing chess… Talented hands of the ingenious nature making the stalactites not only beautiful in terms of lines but also very fanciful in color, a sparkling color like a diamond that no pen can describe.

Walking through the length of more than a thousand meters in the outer part of the decent cave, visitors had the feeling of being lost in a different world – the world of fairyland. This place has both wild and mysterious features; yet very peaceful and poetic at the same time. A sound of water knocking, a voice in a cave has its own reverberation, like the sound of a lute or bell in a temple or a mallow.
