On the way to Cu Chi tunnels, you enjoy a spectacular view of paddy fields. After that, you will go to Ben Dinh tunnels. First, you see a documentary film about the gorillas' war in the Cu Chi district. Then you walk around the tunnel area to see Bomb crates, underground bunkers, deadly traps, ... Try tunnels to see how guerillas could live, fight and survive during the war. You can feel the atmosphere of war. You will be back in Ho Chi Minh city and enjoy lunch at a nice local restaurant. After lunch, you will start again for a half-day city tour including a visit to Reunification Palace, the former Presidential Palace. You then visit the nearby Central Post Office and the Notre Dame Cathedral, which are in Romanesque art and French style. Another destination is the War Remains Museum, where you can have a closer look at the Vietnam War. The tour will finish at your hotel.

DAY 3 - Saigon – Cai Be – Dong Hoa Hiep

You commence early from Saigon by taking a drive to Mekong Delta, the “rice basket” of Vietnam. You arrive at Cai Be at around 10h00, where you get on board the Cai Be Princess sampan and visit the Cai Be floating market, a characteristic style of trading in the Mekong Delta area. The sampan then brings you to Phu An, an untouched remote area reflecting some of the best sights Mekong Delta has to offer. On the way, you can visit some interesting home factories and learn how rice paste and rice popcorn are made. At noon, you arrive at the La Longalier, a superb Indochinese villa located in a lush tropical plantation by the river. After you enjoy your lunch here, your sampan will bring you deeper into the countryside on smaller canals and arroyos, passing under several small traditional bridges made of wood and bamboo. During the cruise, you can take steps to visit some fruit markets and plantations on the banks (bananas, watermelon, and longans), an opportunity to experience the daily life of the local inhabitants. Along the river, local houses are still traditionally made of wood and palm tree leaves. On the river banks, you will observe some very large rice fields while cruising between numerous suspended fishing nets, an ancestral way of fishing in the Mekong Delta. The cruise then proceeds to Dong Hoa Hiep Island, located between Cai Be and Vinh Long and you will disembark your sampan at a riverside’s ancient mandarin house. Now it is time to relax before enjoying the well-prepared dinner in a peaceful and romantic atmosphere. You stay tonight in your private room.

DAY 4 - Dong Hoa Hiep – Sa Dec – Can Tho

After having breakfast, you will say goodbye to the friendly owners and get back on board Cai Be Princess sampan. During the morning cruise around Dong Hoa Hiep Island, you will again experience the rural lifestyle and daily activities of the delta inhabitants such as roofs made with palm tree leaves, a bricks and tiles artisan factory, net fishing… These evergreen islands along the Mekong River bring about large networks of meandering rivers, crisscrossed with countless arroyos, and remaining unknown to many people. The sampan then cruised upstream towards Sa Dec on the Tien Giang River, another large arm of the Mekong. On both sides of the river, locals are recoiling water jacinth, another famous Mekong delta product used for furniture and baskets. On the banks, some dark smoke in the sky will lead us to one of the biggest bricks and tiles factories where you have an interesting visit. Sa Dec town is appearing like a little “Venice '' with numerous narrow canals, with various kinds of activities on the banks. Upon arrival, you will disembark at the local marketplace and have a short walk through it. Your lunch will wait for you at Marguerite Duras’ Lover ancient house, dating from 1880. In the afternoon, you explore the charming and peaceful town by a walk along its narrow streets and beautiful old houses and Temples. Now it is the time for the transfer to Can Tho, where you will arrive in the late afternoon. The rest of the day is at your leisure. Overnight in a hotel in Can Tho.

DAY 5 - Can Tho – Cai Rang Floating Market - Saigon

You rise up early today for another cruise to visit the Cai Rang Floating Market. It is an opportunity to experience and understand precisely how important the Mekong River is for the Delta. Cai Rang is the main wholesale floating market near Can Tho, where hundreds of boats gather every morning. A piece of fruit or a vegetable hanged on a pole at the bow signifying what is for sale on each boat. Having explored the market you continue your cruise to visit a fruit garden or a family’s rice pancake workshop. The cruise then ends at the other bank of the river, where your vehicle is waiting for your journey back to Saigon. You will have a lunch break on the way and arrive back in Saigon in the late afternoon.
